Surprise...
Feb. 20th, 2004 11:31 amI've just relistened to my "Shattered Dreams" CD (originally recorded in 1995).
I'm most of a decade older, and probably about a stone and a half lighter, and have been singing a lot more at the high end of my range over the past few years. I'm quite stunned at how much my vocal technique has improved since then.
Two examples that startled me - listening to "Bright Copper" and singing along, there's a not very high held note at the end which I very clearly only *just* had enough breath to hang onto, and wasn't exactly comfy reaching. Nowadays, I can hold it with twice the volume, and probably twice as long.
And I can sing "Murderer In Grey" up the octave, and it's nasty... in the good, rocky nasty sense. Admittedly there's a top B that's iffy, but I'm not warmed up yet!
Makes a bit more sense of Rhodri James startled look when I hit and held a full voice top A (with plenty of both range and volume to spare) at the end of "Midnight At The Well" on the Friday at Sixteen Tones. Evidently he's not heard me sing for a while!
