Had a whale of a time yesterday at the UKMG bash at the Harp in Albrighton (off the M54 just west of Wolverhampton).

Me actually being there was a bit of a last minute thing: I wasn't going to go, mostly cause I couldn't afford to stay over, and I felt a bit guilty about deserting Anne having been out all of JCSS week, but I got a pass out on condition of doing gardening on Saturday morning :)

Whole bunch of the usual suspects around: [livejournal.com profile] tridders was in charge (since the Harp hosts his local jam night) aided by Tony, who actually runs the jam night, and Terry the landlord. Also present[livejournal.com profile] ian_myatt, [livejournal.com profile] steve_cobham, [livejournal.com profile] paul_c, [livejournal.com profile] jeremy_5x5, [livejournal.com profile] j_otto, [livejournal.com profile] gas_king, [livejournal.com profile] bassworm, [livejournal.com profile] bass_prin_prin, [livejournal.com profile] lofiallstar, and a bunch of other folks WANOLJ but damn well should be :)

Had a *ball*: the absence of [livejournal.com profile] fivetrees due to a cold got me roped in to a couple of songs at short notice, and I even wound up singing on the Sweet's "Ballroom Blitz" (including Andy Scott's somewhat wacky interjections).

High spots? God: [livejournal.com profile] tridders and [livejournal.com profile] steve_cobham doing "Reeling in the Years", [livejournal.com profile] tridders' vocals generally (that man knows far too many songs!), [livejournal.com profile] bass_prin_prin having the guts to stand up in front of a bunch of guys (most of whose talent scares ME) and sing not one but two songs while playing (cool bass, BTW), the amazing Steve White on drums (all bloody night, as usual. How does he do it), Andrew Lefty's deft touch with the pub's Hammond,...

Ah, yes. The Hammond. I have to confess, I only actually played guitar once all night, on 'Sultans Of Swing'. But I did spend a good half hour in the final mad jam playing a real Hammond L-122 through a real rotary speaker, and it was utterly fab :)

Finally got home at 2.40 am. And was up and playing bass in church at 10.
