So, I leave the office at 5.35, walk down to Clapham Junction. Southern train to Victoria, hotter than hell Victoria Line train to Kings Cross...

And there it all goes horribly wrong. I note as I pass the repeater board in the tunnel up to the mainline station at 6.10 that both fast WAGN trains to Peterborough are down as 'Cancelled'. When I get up the stairs, the GNER side of the departure board is one long column of 'Delayed' with no delay estimates and no platform numbers, and the slow WAGN trains are transferring to a bus service at Biggleswade.

Ick.

It rapidly transpires that all is NOT well on the East Coast main line: specifically, overhead power wires are down around Huntingdon, so nothing electric's going anywhere. After a brief couple of phonecalls (one to Andy to rearrange tonight's recording, and one to Anne to discuss options) I hop on the (packed to the rafters) 6.45 to Cambridge.

Apart from waiting outside Cambridge for 15 mins, it's not too bad, actually: I get in just gone 8, and by the time Anne drops me off at Peterborough station for my car its 8.50 or so. Peterborough station is chaos: there's a queue down the pavement outside of folks waiting for trains, and a policeman tells me that there's no trains getting through from Kings Cross and they're sending *diesel* trains down there to fetch folks.

Not fun. Something tells me it won't be sorted by 6am tomorrow. And I was lucky: check this link to see how bad it got.
