Show Of Hands at Ely Cathedral
Nov. 2nd, 2008 10:13 amAwesome. Utterly awesome.
Can't quite decide between that and the High Barn at Great Barfield in '05 as the best SoH gig I've ever seen, but it's close. High Barn is in there because it was my first and I was completely and utterly blown away... see http://fleetfootmike.livejournal.com/124889.html for my review from back then.
Interesting to hear the tweaks to arrangements to fit the Lady Chapel's acoustic in places - love Roots with Phil on mandolin
High spots? Definitely the Corpus Christi Carol (Bells of Paradise), which is /so/ going in
bardling and my repertoire.... Keys..., a roof-raising Cousin Jack... watching Steve's foot on the Dive... just /knowing/ Widdecombe Fair was coming (how could they NOT in that acoustic space!)...
Steve was in cracking voice, but I have to say, he doesn't half look tense when he's playing fiddle Phil was as great as ever - he's still one of my two favourite slide guitarists along with Rick Vito (Fleetwood Mac/John Mayall/Mick Fleetwood Blues Band) - and I just adore the slightly overdriven tone on "Keys To Canterbury".
I think it was the first gig where I've made time to take in just how much work Chris? the soundman does, dropping in echoes in very precise places, etc etc. He's brilliant.
