For my taste the Spitfire was the most beautiful fighter ever, the proportions are just right. I have a soft spot for the Lancaster at the top of the bomber category, and the Short Sunderland for flying boats.

Two of them with Merlins, the other with Pegasus or Hercules engines depending on the mark. Nothing sounds like a Merlin...

Agree, re the look of the Spitfire.

But the story behind the Lancs and the men who flew them is what gets to me.
