Dollhouse

I just figured out why the corporation in Dollhouse is called Rossum.

Equal parts "Doh! Of course." and "Oh, niiiiiice."

No "Duh" on my part, I'd never heard of nor otherwise come across it or the background...

R.U.R.? (That's the only place I know the name, since I don't watch Dollhouse, I don't know how well that matches.)

If you'll forgive me for mixing Piratespeak with LOLCAT...

Having just learned more (thanks, Wikipedia!) about the play than I ever knew before, it actually fits a lot better than I first assumed.

Yeah, I always thought that Whedon should have stuck with Universal after Serenity, instead of going back into business with Fox...

I think that one clicked about three episodes in and I was most amused when it did. Nice one :)

He was contracted with Fox to do 3 series after Buffy.

Looking at the Wikipedia article after you mentioned it I noticed that it actually mentions the connection at the bottom. (I still haven't read, or even seen a copy of, the play. I only know about it by reputation.)

Grin, it's a standard SF quiz question, about the origin of "Robots", so the sad geeks among us (yay Mike!) will have spotted it immediately or fair soon ... R.U.R. ... makes a lot of sense really, and is a nice "in-joke".

I haven't seen Dollhouse, but I did pay my respects at Capek's grave, when we were in Prague a few years ago.

I've never seen R.U.R. performed. However there was a production of another of his plays, War with the Newts, in London back in the 1980s that was quite fun.
