Digital video help needed

Does anyone out there in UK land have the werewithal to play a Digital8 video tape and generate me an MPG or similar?

What is Digital8? I've heard of VHS and Beta, but that's a new one to me.

It's Sony's attempt at digital video - Hi8 tape, DV codec.

Ah, Sony. That explains it. The company never can get it right, as Betamax, DAT, and Blue-Ray can testify.
