Mike Harding sacked by Radio2

Just in case anyone hasn't seen this: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/media/tv-radio/mike-harding--the-voice-of-folk-music-on-radio-2-for-15-years--sacked-by-the-station-in-a-single-phone-call-8215339.html

In a nutshell, the guy who's single-handedly dragged Folk on 2 up to about 10 times its listener base and has been a tireless advocate and champion of folk music on the radio and online (heck, he even plugged [livejournal.com profile] talis_kimberley!) for years? Just got dumped for no remotely sound reason in a 2 min phonecall.

I am more than a little unimpressed.

I haven't followed the story, but I'm sorry. It's always hard to lose a good DJ.

Folk doesn't count, as far as the powers that be at the BBC are concerned. They have Ronan Keating being sentimental and he used to be a pop star, so...
Compare this to the way jazz gets everywhere and any cut is met with howls of outrage.
We're a minority that don't matter.

Didn't they dump Jim Lloyd in a similar manner?

Harding's sacking (and the manner in which it was done) is pretty disgraceful.

It is not a broadcast station, so is not the same thing, but I quite like Folk Radio (http://www.folkradio.co.uk/). An internet streamed station, that can be picked up computers and other tech (in particular, my Pure clock radio, which is how it has become bedtime listening for me).

The station is no-where near fully scheduled, and only has a dozen or so shows a week. However, when a show isn't on, it reverts to broadcasting a playlist, so there is always something playing.
