Just won an eBay auction for a Canon EOS 300D digital SLR.

Lenses for it should keep me in b'day present ideas for yonks, like, say... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4687&item=7530649937&rd=1 :)

Something ever so slightly off about the way the aperture is described in the item title. It's not that exceptional a lens -- most zooms at that focal-length range have about that f4 aperture, and calling f4 a "low light" lens is pushing it IMHO.

f1.4 is low light. f1:4 is being sneaky.

An f1.4 70-210 zoom is going to need a mortgage though, not a birthday present, assuming you can find one.
Canon do a 200mm (fixed) f2.8, and a 28-200mm which is f5.6 at 200mm.
