Looks fascinating but daunting. The impression I get is that one would need to be participating through all these channels, listening to the radio, picking up text messages, thundering around the countryside looking for clues, staying in touch with fellow players and so on and so forth, pretty much all the time when not working or sleeping, otherwise there would be a risk of missing something.

Too all-consuming for someone who's wondering where his life goes as it is...

Not entirely true. It depends on the level to which you wish to become involved. I'm a reasonably early adopter when it comes to the puzzle cards - I have limited and pre-release cards through an earlier competition. I keep abreast of the story through reading a couple of weblogs (RSSed to LJ) and the "newspaper", but I'm not reading or participating in the forums. It takes me a few minutes a week to keep up to date with that reading. I'm playing the puzzle cards (when I can get hold of them - their like rocking horse poo in rarity at the moment) because they are fun to do. Some of the cards are very basic, answer in a matter of seconds. Others have had me hunting info on the web and digging out half-forgotten maths lessons from the back rcesses of my mind. The thing with the cards is, you can do them when you get some free time. The different puzzle levels mean there is something for everyone, and the harder cards require interaction with people with better specialist knowledge. I've got various friends who are not players to help out. I don't think I am likely to be a contender for the big prize, I think that probably does require more time. However, as a game, as something to tickle the grey matter, it is well worth playing.
