On Friday Dave (my best man) and his lady Pat came up for the weekend to visit. We had a /great/ time - don't see them anywhere near often enough, and it always seems like we've never been apart. Much Scotch was drunk on Friday night :)
On Saturday, we swanned around the house a bit while James and Anne did karate, went out and shopped for later, made rock cakes for church on Sunday, then had a semi-impromptu BBQ (the Mill House BBQ this year, late, unofficial, and sorry if you weren't invited but it only got planned at about 24 hours notice when we found out who was in town!). Company included
djbp,
bardling,
plaid_dragon and
losthismarbles. The Wii got a serious workout, and we were all well impressed with Dave's burgers and Morrison's excellent stock of bottled beer.
Sunday morning was Cushion Club at church - 9am kids service once every other month, with a pickup band which is me on electric guitar, Alan on piano, one of Alan's daughters on flute, Bruce on trumpet and Anne on bass. Great fun, as it's all uptempo bouncy stuff for the kids. I was amused to have several folks comment that we looked to be having fun... and, driving back, it occurred to me that this was odd - neither the regular St. Johns band or the Emmanuel band ever look like they're having fun!
Lunch at The Brewery Tap in town with
grey_lady and
rdmaughan who were up for the Day. Great place, excellent beer, great Thai food, and they're a local live music venue - sign their petition, damnit!
Dave and Pat helped us in the garden for a chunk of the afternoon, including removing a fir tree that was in the way of the Green Vanalishi, before they headed back to Bristol.
The only downside - came to turn our LCD TV on this evening, and it won't come out of standby :( and it's out of warranty.

Wait. There's the avocado pit and the pendulum. QED
