Homecomings
Sep. 30th, 2002 09:26 amOur new house used to be used by a firm called Sharma Products, who made organ speakers. Over the last couple of months, we've been keeping half an eye out for anyone selling one of their products, just for fun.
Two turned up inside two days a couple of weeks ago: one on eBay (a twin speaker keyboard amp, which is genuinely useful in Fleetfoot Mike), the other on UpMyStreet.com.
We bought 'em both. Much to the amusement of both sellers, who were told "send it to the address on the back of the cabinet!"
The C100 keys amp:
And, the piece de resistance: the black fridge of doom:
It's a dual channel rotary speaker, designed for a Hammond organ. It weighs a TON.
[Pictures in both cases link to more photos of both.]

Amplifier woes...

To date, it's had several tubes replaced, a burned out resistor replaced, a couple of leaky capacitors replaced, a standby switch fitted to save the tubes.... in most cases, after yet another '70's vintage component gave up the ghost in mid-practice.
Yesterday, in rehearsal, it died again. Intermittently, it would cut out to little or no volume and shedloads of distortion. From previous experience, this is probably another dud screen resistor. Ho hum.
Much as I adore it, and really appreciate the loan of it, I think it's time to whip out my flexible friend and buy myself a decent valve amp that I can rely on for gigs and rehearsals.
