Given that, off the top of my head, I was on 24 flights last year, I don't think I could keep track. (And my first flight was at 6 weeks, so I don't remember that one...*grin*)

Oh, goodness, I couldn't even begin to count. Take a look at my profile. Those airports? Those are cities where I've lived; I didn't count visits and vacations. Everything up until ORD happened by the time I was 15, so I've actually settled down a bit in the latter half of my life. ;)

Plus, in between the moves there were all the vacations and visits to family, etc. My trip to Thailand alone was 9 flights by your definition (we had an extra hop on the 36-hr trip back). Last year saw 4 business trips plus another 5 family trips, all of which included at least 1 stop each way, so without any brain-strain I can name 20 flights right off.

And somehow...I still am not sick of flying. I do my best to be nonchalant about it, but it thrills me like a little kid even now. [livejournal.com profile] ellric used to avoid driving us near the airport in Charlotte because I'd see the planes and get all wistful to travel again.

(I will admit, business trips are becoming a little bit of an ordeal, but that's still more about what happens there than it is about the flying.)

Me? Five. Shuttle trip up to Manchester back in the ?late 80s/early 90s (just before Zander & Janet's wedding, anyway!); to and from Cyprus (about 6 years ago?); to and from Canada last March.

That's a shame - it is still too few to not be able to remember them all! (Or at least most!) :)

(Worldcons)
Miami/Orlando (New Orleans) 2 x 2
Los Angeles x 2
Boston x 2
Toronto x 2
Boston/Toronto 2 x 2
(Filkcons)
FKO 2 x 2
GaFilk (1 + 2) x 2
Concerto 2 x 2
(Skiing)
Turin (Bardonnechia) x 2
Salzburg (Kitz/Zell) x 4
Chambery (La Plagne) x 2
Reno (Mammoth) x 4
San Francisco x 6
Calgary (Banff) x 5 (and there's a tale)
Denver (Vail) x 2
(Other)
Hamburg x 2
Glasgow x 4
Jersey x 6

65, I *think* - of which only 4 were business-related! (I think you should have excluded business travel otherwise certain people's brains will explode)

I suppose the natural follow-up question is how many airports has one flown out of or into? (In my case, 24. I *think*!) :)

Ech - what a thing to have to count. Many of the same ones as Phil barring the first 3 worldcons, add an extra trip for a FilkContinental Phil didn't go to and two SF trips I did on my own, plus let's see, we went on at least one US holiday when I was quite little (2), moved to SF age 5 (1), back when I was 9 (1) and then I had a lot of summer and Christmas holidays there until I met Phil at age 22 so perhaps an extra 20? So perhaps in the region of 85-ish?

Extras for the year when our flight home was diverted to Seattle but still couldn't land there due to the fog so took us back to SF and we flew out again the next day and the year I visited my Grandfather en-route to SF and let's count the flight in the little plane my Dad got one year in a charity auction and I think I might actually just tiptoe over into 90 but couldn't guarantee it.

er... more than 53. I could probably count the international flights, but at one time I was doing about 2 domestic flights per month.

My excuse is that it's late and I'm half-asleep, but I read it as counting take-off and landing separately and wondered how you managed to do an odd number. Think it must be bedtime.

Wow, I don't think I could count the flights, particularly since I lived in Philly for about 6 months a while back and flew home every other weekend!

Lots of take-offs...

Either he's still floating around up there in a very schizophrenic manner or he did a lot of hopefully soft landings too.

I'm not even going to try this one. With the amount of business travel I did before I moved to the UK, and the amount of business travel during periods of my employment here (one or two separate trips every week, many weeks), the brain hurts just thinking about it.

All of which goes to establish that we almost all have extremely bad carbon footprints. I wonder if fandom is statistically anomalous in this respect. I suspect that the answer is yes if only because we are more likely to come from the income bracket of people who travel abroad or the bracket of people who've moved countries one way or t'other.

Glunk. In the cases where I was pilot do I count "touch and go" circuits as a flight each, or should I only count it when the plane started and finished stationary? Counting each lesson as a flight it's at least 13, plus several where I didn't do the takeoff and/or landing, but some of the lessons involved 5 or more circuits landing on each one.

Commercially, quite a lot. Since I was in Germany for almost 3 years and coming back at least once a month that's around 70 flights for a start (actually, more, since many of those involved a stop in Amsterdam).

Netherlands, 1 each way.
Sweden, 3 each way.
Canada, 2 each way.
USA, at least 7 each way plus at least 6 internal flights.

Ah shucks! You win! :-)

I would not have the nerve to do a microlight flight. I prefer to be able to pretend I am on some kind of big train - it just happens to be in the air, is all!
