If you missed the new Top Gear yestereve and you don't want to be spoiled:

a) avoid the BBC News homepage
b) go watch it on BBC iPlayer via my future employers :D
c) ... oh, too late.

So..

The Stig isn't Michael Schumacher!

Well, actually? I'd lay very good odds that for one very very fast lap indeed, it was. You see... there are only 30 Ferrari FXX's in the world, and only one of them is black with no white stripe, and subtle red wheel trim.

And it just happens to be owned by the man in the white helmet on yesterday's Top Gear.

[Hah: "A spokesman for the British broadcaster, meanwhile, confirmed that Schumacher was The Stig for the Ferrari segment, but that otherwise the truth would remain ‘a mystery’." - http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/news/detail/090622092912.shtml

I knew it :D. The way he threw it round the track was very F1-style, too.]

Not even here ... I'm in Cambridge and I can't get iPlayer, at work, because our corporate ISP has Dutch or Finnish IP addresses.

When Richard "The Hamster" Hammond has his bad accident a few years ago they interviewed a driver on the radio, gave his real name and said he was The Stig ... but it wasn't anyone I recognised ... I believe the actual The Stig is a touring car or similar racer ... and that it isn't necessarily the same driver every week, just depends who is available, though it's probably the same person for nearly all of each season, subject to availability :-)

Some say he can beat Michael Schumacher in pedal cars, and that he is the only hope for a peaceful resolution to the F1 crisis ... all we know is that he is The Stig!

There have been multiple Stigs, (including Heiki Kovaleinen when the Renault F1 car did a power lap), but it's pretty clear from the available info (now including video on the Top Gear site) that Schumi actually was the Stig for that episode :D (Much better shots of his FXX, too, including the signature in red on the interior trim.)

Wonder if they warned him beforehand about that little segment in the Liana at the end? :D

"all we know is that he is The Stig"

All we know is that he's *called* The Stig.

That could of course be a cunning anagram, and his name's really Seth Git. =:o}

Does the BBC's YouTube channel work overseas? and Top Gear has their own official channel, too.

The Stig is just whoever they need it to be.

On at least one occasion it was obviously a woman (jumping off the ski slope).
