If you want me to interview you--post a comment that simply says, 'Interview me.' I'll respond with questions for you to take back to your own journal and answer as a post. Of course, they'll be different for each person since this is an interview and not a general survey. At the bottom of your post, after answering the Interviewer's questions, you ask if anyone wants to be interviewed.

1. How did you get into filk?

The UK Unicon was in Cambridge in my final year, and I went, and there was this thing called filk on the programme... Had a great time, wowed a couple of people with at least one original song (which was something of a rarity in UK filk in 1985). That was it, really, till the 1987 WorldCon in Brighton, when I spent most of my time in the filk room, a lot of it with [livejournal.com profile] demoneyes, and things sort of snowballed from there. Follycon (1988) was the first British Eastercon with a filk concert, and I was far too slow to run away at the end of it...

2. What do you think are the main differences between North American and European filk - if any?

I think there are as many _regional_ differences within US filk as there are between the US and the UK. Not having been to any recent US filkcons apart from GAFilk, which seems to be modelled rather on the UK cons, it's hard to pin down specifics.

3. Fleetwood Mike. Why and how did it start?

That's Fleetfoot Mike, and it all started driving along in a car with Anne... well, no it didn't, actually. If you go right back it started when Phoenix were booked to play the Saturday night ball at The Wrap Party, a Babylon 5 convention. In the interests of appealing to the non-filk-friendly fen there, we did some straight covers, which included "Don't Stop" and "The Chain", which were kind of fun. At one of the rehearsals, we took a break to watch most of The Dance, and Tim had great fun air-drumming to Mick's drum parts and pulling Mick's wacky expressions (to the extent that even just tapping rhythms on his knees it was audibly recognisable as the right part).

And then, Anne and I were driving along, and I said, "You know, with Annie sounding like Stevie Nicks, Tim being able to play like Mick, me learning half my lead guitar off Fleetwood Mac Live, and you being blonde and playing keyboards, we ought to form a Fleetwood Mac tribute band". There was a pause. And then she said "and we could call it Fleetfoot Mike". The daft thing is, I was, actually, joking.

Two phonecalls later (Tim + Annie, who died laughing at the name and said 'it's a great idea', and Mal, who said 'oh yes PLEASE'), Fleetfoot Mike was born. So far, it's cost us over 3000 quid in kit... but damnit, it's FUN.

4. What's the best guitar you've ever owned or played?

Oooof. I don't think there's one answer to that. The best electric I've ever played I only played once, and that was a Hagstrom Super Swede belonging to a mate's band at Hull University (where I worked in my year out) in 1982. Action to die for - it practically played itself. Best electric I've owned has to be 'Lady', my sunburst Tokai Les Paul Custom, with 'Guinevere', my white Ibanez Les Paul Custom, a very close second - they're different, tonewise - if anything Guinevere is more right for Fleetfoot Mike, but I prefer Lady's weight and feel. As for best acoustic? I'm still looking.

5. Leeds United - objectively, what do you reckon is going wrong and how can it be fixed? Oh, and lay your bets for next season?

Me? I think it's fixed now. Too many people, board, management and fans, have been spending too long believing too much of the crap that the back pages use to fill empty column inches. The new chairman seems to see right through that, and Peter Reid is a refreshingly down-to-earth no-bullshit manager. Now if we could get the umpteen different fan organisations, half of them led by the same person, to stop spending all their time trying to boost their egos and get more column inches of quotes, we'd do even better...

Next season? UEFA Cup place, if we don't do something mindnumbingly cretinous like sell Harry Kewell and Mark Viduka.

So... if you want to be interviewed, leave me a comment and ask...
