And the answers...
Oct. 1st, 2003 08:48 amOk... here we go:
1) I've been interviewed by Craig Charles (Red Dwarf, Robot Wars) on UK national TV.
True. For a piece on
filk done by Channel 4 as part of their programme the 1995 World SF Con in Glasgow. Along with, if memory serves,
katyhh,
shannachie and Valerie Housden.
2) I've jammed with Asia's guitarist.
True, and more than once. The guitarist in question being Vinny Burns, who toured with them for a while, as well as being a member of Dare, Ten, and Ultravox. He's a uk.music.guitar semi-regular.
3) I've accompanied Anne McCaffrey on guitar.
True: at the 1989 Eastercon on Jersey - she had just finished a story for the 'Carmen Miranda's Ghost' anthology, based on Leslie Fish's song of the same name. She's a trained opera singer, but suffers dreadfully from tinnitus - to make matters even more entertaining, neither of us had a copy of the chords OR a recording, so I had to busk it on one rehearsal. Nice lady.
4) I'm mentioned in the dedication to an O'Reilly textbook.
Actually, false. Close, but no cigar. I'm mentioned in the acknowledgements to Essential CVS, by the wonderful
shaynemadhu, and I believe I'm also mentioned in the acknowledgements to Chapter 3 of The Cathedral And The Bazaar, since I'm mentioned in the corresponding paper on which it was based. But no, no dedication. Yet :)
5) My Fleetwood Mac number (by analogy with Kevin Bacon number, and where the relationship is 'is on first name terms with') is 2 with two different members of the band.
True. I know Steve Fairhead, who is former Mac guitarist (on "Penguin" and "Mystery To Me") Bob Weston's webmaster, and on first-name terms with long-time Mac stalwart Bob Welch (which I guess gives me a Mac number of 3 with most members of the band). In addition I have a Mac number of 3 via our bassist in Fleetfoot Mike, who learned bass off Stu Brooks of Black Cat Bones, with whom Bob Weston played.
So there you go.

The dedication ...
Date: 2003-10-01 07:19 am (UTC)But you did help me keep going when she died. And that was important.
Love, friendship and respect, oh ubergeek.
Re: The dedication ...
Date: 2003-10-01 09:44 am (UTC)But I was kind of clutching at straws for believeable falsehoods :)
