Mighty Huntress

For the third time in a couple of months, I have come downstairs to find feathers all over the living room, and a dead pigeon on the kitchen floor. And a very proud Sully purring at us... and... eww, cat. Pigeon breath :)

Yay for the proud hunter!

She seems to think you need to be provided for, as you don't know how to hunt/feed yourselves properly... ;)

She's been watching his weight loss over the last two years. "Poor thing," she thinks to herself. "he's wasting away. Something must be done about it!"

Chewie on the other hand brings in mice. He plays with them for a while and then when they are broken (he just doesn't look after his toys properly!) he leaves them on the kitchen floor for me to find. Last person to find one was Alex, who picked it up and said "What's this Mummy?". Mummy I'm afraid to say sqeaked rather because the last one hadn't been quite dead and she was afraid Alex was about to be chomped, but this was not the case and we disposed of it in due course. I'm sure had I not been there Alex would have been tempted to follow the lead of Jared and Corwin and have a good time with Action Play Dead Mouse! And later in the year it'll be frogs...

Any cat prepared to help with the pigeon population problem is OK with me!

Well, let's face it, pretty much any cat is OK with me, but that's beside the point.

Now that is an idea...we need an equivalent number of wild cats in the cities, to keep teh pidgeon population in balance....the only city I know of with cats is rome. Don't know if it helps though...

Well, there's a large feral cat population on the Costa del Sol in Spain. But I suspect seagulls make up more of their diet than pigeons. On the other hand, seagulls are just another "winged rat" variant....

Thank you for reminding me why I'm glad our cats are indoor only....I've never had to experience pigeon breath, just cat food breath.

I find it interesting that what you object to is, not the dead body or the feathers all over, but the pigeon breath.

{grin}

One of ours loves her toy mousies.

We dread the day that she ever finds a real one.

We may not notice for several days...

Then we pick one up to toss it for her... Ewwww...

She's a natural predator. I can't really blame her for doing what comes naturally. And she was surprisingly tidy - I found the rest of the pigeon in the playroom, in one neat pile, at lunchtime.

(And yes, my opinion on this is 'if you can't handle keeping a predator, either a) don't, or b) get one that is HAPPY being kept indoors')

we found a (thankfully dead) rat on the back lawn last week. [livejournal.com profile] perlmonger weighed it (eeeugh) and it clocked in at 9 oz ...
