We have no phone....
Apr. 8th, 2004 09:02 pmFor those of you who've tried phoning recently, you may have noticed a BT 'this line is temporarily out of service' type message.
We're pretty sure this is the ISDN line to the PABX (yes, we have a switchboard at home - how sad is that) since internal calls work, and as SOON as you dial enough digits for the PABX to figure it's an external line, we get an engaged tone.
Called BT at 5.45pm yesterday: they called back at about 6:45 to confirm details, and promised a call back in half an hour after they'd reset the line.
They didn't. They called back at 11,.20 am, while I was in a meeting. And left a message while basically said 'it'll be fixed within 8 working hours'.
Which probably takes us to TUESDAY.
Till then, if you need to talk to myself or Anne, I suggest IRC, AIM, Yahoo or my mobile. If you don't have access to any of the above, try email :)

Date: 2004-04-08 11:13 pm (UTC)That work, which is essentially metal-bashing, is sub-contracted to another company. The guy had come up from Mansfield, near Nottingham, and had other jobs in his queue in Manchester and near Leicester.
And the Manchester job was nothing to do with the fire in the secret underground tunnel which used to be a bomb-proof telephone exchange.
I can see why a sub-contractor might be used, though that means there are two lots of profit to extract. But one guy zigzagging across the country seems a little less than optimal.
