From [livejournal.com profile] officialgaiman:

"I think Anne Rice going on Amazon and lambasting her critics was undoubtedly a very brave and satisfying thing for her to do, was every bit as sensible as kicking a tar baby, and, if ever I do something like that, please shoot me."

What he said.

Satisfying, yes. Brave? I doubt it. She's a well-respected highly popular author. I don't think lambasting an unknown critic on Amazon was a particularly hard or "brave" thing for her to do somehow.

Oh I dunno - all I've heard about it is what people have posted on LJ and I am admittedly not a fan of her work (well - haven't really read any of it)...
however, for a popular author, who is at least in some ways a public figure, to just say what she really wants to say no matter how bad it may make her look is either brave or stupid or both. I think Gaiman got it dead on. Which doesn't surprise me since I've been pretty damned impressed with both his writing and his personality from what little I've seen of both. ;-)
