Hardware headaches

I need to scan one measely image to finish this Quark Xpress project I'm working on. The damn scanner has worked fine for the other 20 or so, but here I am, with a 'burn the CD' deadline of today, and every blasted time the scanner stops, locks the machine up and ... well, that's it.

Downloading a second set of new drivers. Cursing computers in general.
